NOTD: O.P.I 'Lights Of Emerald City'

WARNING: Pic Heavy!

I have to say the collections from O.P.I barely interest me these days. I used to be obsessed with the nail lacquer giant but now I don't find any of the shades jump out at me. Every now and then though there's one beauty that catches my eye, this time it's Lights Of Emerald City which is part of the new Oz The Great And Powerful collection.

This polish looks beautiful in the bottle, it kinda reminds me of a snow globe. I really like how it looks on the nails too - it's a clear base packed full of large white, matte, square glitter along with smaller squares of glitter which change colour depending on what shade of polish you layer it over. I love the polish but have had some issues with it.

In the photo's I've layered one coat of Lights Of Emerald City over Filthy Gorgeous 'Tea Bird'* I loved how it looked but on closer inspection I noticed lots of holes right through the polish. I thought maybe I hadn't let 'Tea Bird' dry properly before applying Lights Of Emerald City so a few days later I started from scratch, even using a different base/top coat and let it all dry for an hour before slicking LOEC on top. Within an hour I noticed the holes appearing again! I'm not too bothered as it isn't noticeable unless I have my hand right up to my face or use macro on my camera but it's still a bit annoying. I'm also a bit annoyed by how roughly the larger white squares have been cut.

Despite all that I do still love LOEC but in my opinion the quality of O.P.I polishes is slipping.

Do you own this?
Have you had the same problems?

  1. Love this combination, I don't own any OPI but I have done in the past and have enjoyed some of their colours. x

    1. I do too :) just wish it didn't create holes in the base colour.

  3. I've never wanted an O.P.I. polish so much! (Except maybe the elusive Yoga-ta Get This Blue). Did you have to fish about much to apply the square glitter?

    1. They came out eady enough on the brush bit you do need to dab the white squares on. It's not too bad though.

  4. This is so pretty. Love the large square its, looks a bit like confetti. Annoying about the strange wholes but still beautiful nails!

    1. I'm loving the confetti look recently but so far this is the only confetti-ish polish I own. Thanks :)

  5. I'm not a fan of this look, but I have to say you pull it off beautifully. I think its the blue base that does it. Well chosen!
