Review: La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution

La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution

Right I think we all know how I feel about Micellar Waters by now. For me they're NEVER going to replace a proper cleanser and if you're using a micellar without cleansing after, your face isnt clean. Its as simple as that. Another thing I'm sick of hearing is 'hold the soaked cotton pad over your eyes for a minute and your mascara comes off completely in one sweep' uhm, no it doesnt. WHY YOU LIE! Its clear to see I'm not the biggest fan so why did I buy another one? Well, I just cant accept that other people love them and I dont. I'm deluded enough to think that out there hiding away somewhere is a magic micellar that actually does remove mascara with just one sweep of a cotton pad.

Theres a few things I hate about micellars - most leave residue on the skin, the amount of cotton pads you need to go through before your face is semi clean and they dont remove mascara as easily as they would have you believe. Let me just say this isnt a negative review. La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution is the best I've tried so far. Heres why..

The formula is ideal for sensitive skin. Its soap free, paraben free, alcohol free and colourant free. There is a slight scent but its barely there which is perfect for me as it doesnt cause hives to pop up all over my face. It contains The La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water which is rich in anti-oxidant selenium and known for its anti-irritating properties making it brilliant for anyone with extremely sensitive skin.

Does it remove mascara with one sweep of a cotton pad? No it doesnt but I didnt expect it to so I can live with that. Does it leave any residue? No! :) You dont understand how happy this makes me. Yes I cleanse after using micellars for make up removal but if I'm not wearing make up and I'm out and about I'll use it to freshen up if its really warm but the last thing I want is a tacky feeling face. The bottle is a generous 200ml and priced at £11.50 in Boots but I'm sure you could find it cheaper online. I still need to go through quite a few cotton pads and I'm halfway through my bottle already. I think 200ml would only last me around a month which isnt very economical so for that reason it wont be a constant repurchase.

Whats the best micellar you've tried?

  1. I am with you on the whole one sweep and all of your mascara is gone... wtf, no it isn't. lol. I have finally finished my bottle of bioderma and it has actually grown on me. I still love a good oil cleanse and I always use a good cleanser after using the bioderma but like I said it is definitely growing on me. Great review hun. xx

    1. The whole claim of removing mascara in one go just makes me laugh now. lol I dont own an oil cleanser at the min but they're so good arent they. I might try a new one once I get through some of the cleansers I already own.

  2. Haha no way do they sweep mascara with one sweep. I love my Bioderma but I wouldn't say it could do that! It takes a bit of rubbing but doesn't everything when it comes to removing mascara!!

    1. I'm always going to be harder on any product that makes that crazy claim. For me the best cleanser for removing mascara has always been Cleanse & Polish.

  3. Haha it's so nice to see someone be truthful and honest! I've never really bought into the hype around micellars as I just didn't think they would be that good.

    1. They're definitely not something I would ever say you need. I just think of Micellar Water as a glorified face wipe (without the wipe) haha

  4. I love your 'tell it how it is' approach to your reviews! I haven't tried a micellar cleansing water yet. For the simple reason, I just don't understand how they could possibly beat a cream cleanser?
I don't like the sound of residue after using them, so glad this one didn't do that for you.

If a British brand produces one (as thats kind of the blog theme at the mo), then I might try one. For now I think I'll carry on with a double cleanse using a cream cleanser / wash

    1. They dont beat cream cleansers, or any kind of cleanser to be honest. For me they're only something you would use if you didnt have access to water like on a plane, long car journeys, festivals etc.

I wonder if there is one from a British brand? I cant think of any but I'm sure it wont be long untill every band jumps on the bandwagon.

  5. I dislike how these don't remove eye makeup easily, if at all. I do find that my skin seems to remain in better condition when I use bioderma to remove my makeup before cleansing, than if I were to double cleanse. But everyone is different!!xxx

    1. Thats good that it helps your skin. Doing a double cleanse sometimes really irritates my skin, I'm convinced my face is allergic to warm water.

  6. Thanks for this great article. I have been struggling to create my blog into a brand. Just read your article and I will try the methods you have mentioned. Hope to see Success soon :)
