You're No good For Me: MAC Ricepaper.

It's not often I'll end up with a product I dont like but it does happen. Most of us now read reviews when we're thinking about making a purchase but we're all different, just because something works for someone else doesnt mean it'll work for you and vice versa. I thought I would start doing posts on certain products that just dont work for me, hopefully I wont need to do the posts very often.

MAC Ricepaper.

Ricepaper & All That Glitters were my first 2 eyeshadows from MAC. Years ago my first experience with MAC was foundation, it was almost enough to put me off the brand for life but I decided to try a few eyeshadows as they seem to really popular on the blogosphere. Ricepaper really disappointed me and as a result I havent purchased any other shades. The pigmentation is really really bad and picking any colour up on a brush is almost impossible. You need to add layer upon layer to get any colour pay off and the end result just isnt a good look. It makes me look knackered and gives me the crepey eye lids of an 110 year old turtle. I've tried it all over the lid, brow bone, inner corners but I just dont like how it looks. Maybe it just doesnt suit my skin tone and thats my problem, not MACs but the shadow itself just seems to be really bad quality.

I know lots of people love Ricepaper but for me its just a big fat fail. Do you own Ricepaper? Whats your thoughts?

  2. Nice to see an honest review, I really do like mac eyeshadows but occasionally you do come across the odd one that is just not as good as the others, I imagine that this one is better when used to blend out other shades rather than on its own though I've not tried Ricepaper yet myself.

  3. Actually agree with you! I've wanted Ricepaper for absolute ages after hearing everyone rave and rave about it. I don't have a problem with the pigmentation as such (but I've had problems with others that everyone else thinks are highly pigmented so I do think it's possible to get a 'dud'). I just don't think the colour suits me! It's almost too yellow for my yellow-toned skin.. just makes me look like I've got jaundice. So want to love it but I just don't! x

    1. Maybe I got a dud then but no matter how long I run my finger/brush over it, it just doesnt pick anything up. It's like running your brush over a stone. It doesnt look too yellow on me but still makes me look sick/tired.

  4. I've not even heard of this shade! I bought 'Haux' a while back thinking it would be the perfect matte brown, but similarly the quality is dire and I actually can't get any colour on the brush no matter how hard I try. Disappointing!x

    1. The quality is awful. It reminds me of kids eye shadow palettes. I thought it would make a nice highlight colour but it just doesnt.

    1. I almost bought Black Tied a while back! I think MAC is a bit overrated in general. I love the lippies but prefer Urban Decay shadows, so much easier to work with and the colour pay off is brilliant.

  6. From what I can tell the MAC pressed eyeshadows aren't great in terms of pigmentation - I swear by their Pigments though! x

    2. MAC pigments are really lovely but I cant be bothered with the hassle. I usually spill them everywhere or get them all over my face. lol

    1. I think I need to go to a MAC counter and have a good eyeshadow swatch. I really like All That Glitters so atleast I know they're not all bad.

  9. I have always been tempted to buy Ricepaper because so many people say they love it, but I think I'll have to swatch it at a counter now to see what it's like! I haven't had any problems with the few MAC eyeshadows I own, but I do think they're overpriced. Urban Decay ones are MUCH better pigment wise! x
