For the last 5+ weeks (day and night) I've been trying out the Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brightening Dark Circles Eye Cream* which claims to target dark circles under the eye area with a proven anti dark circle peptide.
Eye cream is one product I don't think will ever make it on to my Holy Grail list as not only do I have horrendous dark circles but I also have bags, fine lines and puffiness, and am yet to find one product that tackles all. Straight away I have to say I haven't noticed much, if any difference in the dark circle department which is disappointing especially after reading a few reviews on how it makes dark circles disappear after 3 weeks but all isn't lost - it hydrates my fine lines making them invisible and doesn't make the puffiness any worse. It sits well under concealer, keeping the under eye area hydrated all day without feeling heavy or greasy. The texture is very light which at first made me question how moisturising it would be but I needn't have worried. Even though the texture is light a little goes a long way and is easy to spread around the eye contour. It's also worth mentioning it absorbs quickly meaning concealer can be applied straight away instead of having to wait around for a few minutes before cracking on with your make up.
As far as affordable eye creams go, it's a good'un and one I would recommend but not for it's intended purpose. If your dark circles aren't too bad, you may have more luck with it than I did.
Have you tried this?

Well as you said a lot of eye creams tend to be quite expensive so this is definitely a very affordable option, shame you're not 100% happy with it :o) Xx

The price of eye creams just blows my mind! It works just as good as more expensive eye creams in my opinion (nothing gets rid of my dark circles) Anyone with very dry skin around the eye area would need something more intense though.

I think for dark circles the best treatment is sleep, vitamins and a break from the computer :) I hope you review the other bits of the range, would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm a baaaad sleeper, definitely to blame for my dark circles but even when I do get a good nights sleep it doesn't seem to make difference. I haven't tried anything else from the Vitamin C+ range but I'm tempted to buy the cleansing oil.
DeletePS - Have your tag drafted up for tomorrow. :)

I'm very sceptical whether eye creams can really help with dark circles to be honest. I use Clinique All About Eyes which says it'll help with dark circles, but I can't see any difference either! This sounds like a nice hydrating, cheaper option for me.

I agree. The only eye crram I've ever noticed a bit of a difference with is the one from Sarah Chapman.
DeleteI would definitely switch to a cheaper option if you don't find All About Eyes hydrating.

I'm sorry you were disappointed Fran. Dark circles are like pigmentation, very difficult to shift. Do you know what the cause of yours is? Hereditary? Allergy, then they are called "allergic shiners". Poor sleep? I'm not aware of a fix for the first two causes, other than a good concealer. The poor sleep can be addressed and then you may see an improvement regardless of what product you use.
ReplyDeleteHaving said all that, I can recommend some brands; Nourish's Revital Eyes and Benefit's eye cream from their b.right range.
I think I've always had dark circles but over the last 5-ish years they've got worse. I think it's lack of sleep but it could just be because I'm getting older. I think any cream would struggle to help mine, even concealer has a job covering them. I've tried the Benefit eye cream but I've added the Nourish one to my list. Thanks for the recs :)

Shame, I had high hopes for this one. My dark circles are pretty horrifying :( x
