As most of you will know by now, I have a crazily sensitive scalp and after doing some research I found out that SLS/SLES (the harsh foaming agents) in most shampoo can be the cause, so for the last year or so I've avoided products containing those ingredients. I've tried a few different SLS free shampoos so thought I would do a comparison between Liz Earle and The Body Shop, I've already reviewed LE Botanical Shine here.
Rainforest Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner. 400ml - £6 each.
The first shampoo I went for was Liz Earle Botanical Shine and had experienced good results but after using up my second bottle I decided to pick a shampoo & conditioner from The Body Shops Rainforest range, theres a few different options depending on your hair type but I went for 'Moisture'
Both the shampoo & conditioner contain Pracaxi Oil, Manketti Nut Oil and Community Trade Honey and are free from Silicones, Sulphates, Colourants and Parabens.
Anyone who has used an SLS free shampoo before will know that with the first wash it doesnt lather up as quickly but the second wash is fine. The shampoo did feel moisturising during the wash but I cant say I noticed any difference once my hair had dried and unlike Liz Earle Botanical Shine, I didnt notice any improvement in my scalp after the first use.
The Rainforest range isnt marketed as a dry/itchy/sensitive scalp solution but the fact that it doesnt contain any nasty ingredients should benefit us sensitive lot.
I have 400ml and wasnt going to let it go to waste, I found that if you stick with this shampoo and use it daily or atleast every other day (like I do) then it really does help your scalp but not as much as Liz Earle Botanical Shine. If you decide to go for this shampoo I would say save yourself a few quid and dont buy the conditioner, its nothing to get excited over, I found it really average.
Pros: Better prices and bigger sizes / easier to get hold of as most places have a Body Shop / Improves condition of scalp with continued use.
Cons: Doesnt leave hair as shiny as Liz Earle Botanical Shine shampoo / Doesnt smell as good / Takes longer to notice/feel the benefits.
I doubt I'll repurchase this shampoo, just because I've had better results from other brands but I know some people really love the Rainforest range. If you've tried it, what did you think?
I really didn't enjoy this shampoo and felt it made my hair dryer! :(

Really? I honestly cant say it made my hair dryer but it didnt improve the condition either.

I've been concidering buying shampoo's from the body shop as i too have a really senstive scalp and can't find anything to help it. I think Liz Earle is a little out of my price range so im not sure. Maybe i should stay away from the body shops too.
ReplyDeleteGreat review(:

The Body Shop still include all the nasty chemicals (except the Rainforest range). I think Liz Earle have a travel size in the shampoo & conditioner, not sure of the price but it would able you to try it out without paying full price.

I've been contemplating this for a while; I've used so many of Naked's ones that it's getting dull ;) x
ReplyDeleteTheres smaller sizes, give them a try, they might work for you. I still havent tried any shampoo from Naked but I plan to. :]

The Naked ones really are lovely :) when my Naked supplies get low, I'm gonna try the Body Shop ones :) x
DeleteBit of a back-restalk, but I just have to say that I bought this shampoo and it's okay, but nothing special for me either x
DeleteHave you tried the Body Shop banana shampoo and conditioner? Not sure if they are also SLS free but if they are I would seriously recommend them! 4 quid each (sometimes 2 each, during sales!) and are honestly the best shampoo and conditioner I've ever used and probably the only ones I've ever repurchased more than once. If you like the smell of mashed banana you will LOVE them, absolutely addictive. The shampoo doesn't foam very well, but if you do two washes it's much more lather-able on the second go xx
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of banana but dont think they're SLS free, booo. I'm sure I tried a shampoo in one of their other scents a few years ago but and it drove me mad with itch. I tried that Eucerin shampoo.. Disgusting! If you think Aussie weighs your hair down, this is 10x worse plus it didnt do anything to help my scalp.

Oh no! What a pain.. it sounded so good in theory! I'm lucky that I don't have a sensitive scalp, sounds like such a bore! Stick to Liz Earle :) x
